Usually you get this error if the you are trying to using showmount command to see the available nfs shares on your remote nfs server.
[root@client ~]# showmount -e 192.168.85.1
clnt_create: RPC: Program not registered
clnt_create: RPC: Program not registered
If the nfs service is runnging on your remote nfs server, you get this error on your client machine after running showmount command. To resolve this issue, just check if the nfs service is running on your server or not
[root@manny ~]# /etc/init.d/nfs status
rpc.svcgssd is stopped
rpc.mountd is stopped
nfsd is stopped
rpc.rquotad is stopped
rpc.svcgssd is stopped
rpc.mountd is stopped
nfsd is stopped
rpc.rquotad is stopped
Simply restart the nfs service on server and also make it start at startup using chkconfig command
[root@server ~]# /etc/init.d/nfs restart
[root@server ~]# chkconfig nfs on

ReplyDeletethis made my assignment work! :D :D
thnks ...
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem, but found the gateway IP address missing on the other server's config. Added this and I was able to successfully mount the NFS dirs.
ReplyDeletehi
ReplyDeleteI think you client and nfs server on different networks and client is unable to reach the server, so once you added the gateway then it reached the server via gateway. If i'm correct you'll get the below error
clnt_create: RPC: Port mapper failure - Unable to receive: errno 113 (No route t o host)
This post is for
clnt_create: RPC: Program not registered,
which means nfs client service on the client machine is not installed or not started.
Hi Folks,
ReplyDeleteJust follow the following order. I cannot exactly say what cause this stupid bug.
# service nfs restart
# service rpcbind restart
# service nfs stop
# service nfs start
Hopefully now it should work.
Test it,
# showmount -e localhost
Cheers!
I don't whether it would work for you or not but i have face similar issue on NFS server and on NFS client.. on server your suggestion work fine , on client this works for me

In my case, the directory I was sharing had 700 permissions. The exported directory has to be open for reading by others.
ReplyDeletedude, thank you so much
